What is a customer persona template?
A customer persona template is a structured way to turn research about your real customers into a single, usable reference: who they are, what they need, and what gets in their way.
Most persona exercises skip straight to the card and end up as a nice-looking PDF nobody opens again. This version puts the research and validation steps first, so the card at the end reflects real customers rather than assumptions, and comes with a clear objective for how your team should use it.
What's inside the template?
The worksheet has five parts, plus the persona card itself:
- Narrow your scope
- Gather the voice of the customer
- Brainstorm with your cross-functional team
- Validate with one-to-one interviews
- Put it to work
How to use the template
Decide which customers actually matter most to your business before you gather any research, so you're not trying to build one persona that represents everyone.
Pull together what you already know, then get your cross-functional team in a room to agree on what this persona is actually for.
Once the card is filled in, share the objective it was built for alongside the card itself, and revisit it whenever your product or customer base shifts enough that the persona no longer reflects reality.
