What is a customer awards program framework?
The customer awards program is a six-step framework for launching a customer recognition program that generates advocates, content, and revenue, not just goodwill. It walks through every decision you need locked in before launch and how you'll score and select winners.
Most teams either skip straight to designing the trophy or get stuck trying to build everything at once. This framework forces the sequence that actually works. By the end, you'll have a program you can point to a P&L for, not just a highlight reel.
What's inside the template?
Six sections, worked through in order:
- Set your objectives and your customer's "what's in it for me"
- Structure your categories (inclusive and competitive)
- Design your two reward tiers
- Incentivize nominations
- Confirm legal groundwork
- Score entries, then capture your takeaways
How to use the template
Start with section one; skipping the "what's in it for the customer" half is the most common reason these programs stall. Work sections three and four with whoever owns budget, since rewards and nomination incentives both cost money.
Loop legal in while you're still designing the program (section five), not after you've shortlisted names. Use section six to mine every submission for marketing language, product signal, and a ready pool of speakers, not just your winners.
