What is a Porter's Five Forces worksheet?

Porter's Five Forces is a framework for scoring the competitive pressure on your business across five areas: new entrants, buyer power, supplier power, rivalry, and substitutes.

This worksheet turns that framework into a facilitated session your team can actually run, rather than a slide you fill in alone.

What's inside the template?

The worksheet has five parts, plus a closing verdict:

  1. Prepare before the session
  2. Score each force
  3. Compare target segments or markets
  4. Run the session
  5. After the session

How to use the template

Start with the prep section before you get anyone in a room. Naming a facilitator who isn't running the business day-to-day will push back on assumptions the rest of the team has stopped noticing.

Work through the five forces in order during the session, agreeing on a score and capturing the reasoning in the notes column as you go. If you're evaluating more than one target segment or market, run the scoring table again for each one so you can compare them directly rather than relying on a single impression.

Once the session ends, compile the notes into a single document and share it with everyone in the room before it goes stale. The real value is in the overall verdict at the end, so treat the scores as a means to that answer, not the finish line.
